PHOTO RELEASE: Gov. Jindal Visits State Sand Boom Project in East Grand Terre; Berm Actively Holds Oil Back From Further Intrusion Into Interior Wetlands, LDWF Dispatched to Rescue 19 Oiled Birds

BATON ROUGE (June 3, 2010) - Governor Bobby Jindal visited the state’s sand boom project today in East Grand Terre, where a berm is actively holding oil back from intruding further into the interior wetlands.

While on the tour, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries was called to rescue several oiled pelicans. Fifteen pelicans and four sea gulls were rescued in East Grand Terre this afternoon.

The Brown Pelican is Louisiana’s official state bird, only recently removed from the endangered species list on November 11, 2009.
