PRESS RELEASE Report on Oil Sightings throughout Coastal Louisiana BATON ROUGE (June 28, 2010) - The below is a situational awareness report of oil impacted areas led by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Army National Guard and local governments. Note: The information in this report has been forwarded to the federal incident command post in Houma, which is composed of U.S. Coast Guard and BP officials. This report consists of newly impacted areas, and does not serve as a comprehensive listing of impacted areas. Oil Sightings Report June 28, 2010 St. Bernard Parish: Sighting: Oil pancake in N Chandeleur Sound, 5.5 miles E of Martin Bay Sighting: Emulsified oil off western shore on N Chandeleur Islands Sighting: Oil spots located 1.75 miles E of Chandeleur Islands Sighting: Recoverable oil reported in E Chandeleur Sound, 2 miles E/SE of Point Neptune Sighting: Oil sighted 1 mile E of the southern tip of Chandeleur Islands Plaquemines Parish: Sighting: Oil slick with small tar balls beginning near Pilot/Straight Bayou ending near NE Mississippi Pass Sighting: Orange/brown oil sighted in Red Fish Bay, 3 miles NE of East Jetty of South Mississippi Pass Sighting: Tar balls in a sheen located in East Bay, 7 miles W of West Jetty of South Mississippi Pass Sighting: Oil in marsh on the western shoreline of Bay Long Sighting: Oil in marsh of Bayou Dulac 0.63 miles from Bay Batiste Sighting: Tar balls in a sheen 0.64 miles SE of Bay Jimmy Sighting: Tar balls in a sheen located in SE Wilkinson Bay Sighting: Tar balls in a sheen for mile in Wilkinson Bayou from Wilkinson Bay Jefferson Parish: Sighting: Oil sheen with small tar balls located on the E bank of Barataria Pass Sighting: Oil in sand on NE shore of Fifi Island Lafourche Parish: Terrebonne Parish: Sighting: Emulsified oil off W shore of Raccoon Point ### |
