PRESS RELEASE Report on Oil Sightings throughout Coastal Louisiana BATON ROUGE (July 8, 2010) - The below is a situational awareness report of oil impacted areas led by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Army National Guard and local governments. Note: The information in this report has been forwarded to the federal incident command post in Houma, which is composed of U.S. Coast Guard and BP officials. This report consists of newly impacted areas, and does not serve as a comprehensive listing of impacted areas. Oil Sightings Report July 8, 2010 Cameron Parish: Sighting: Oil located 22.5 miles SSE of the Calcasieu Ship Channel Jefferson Parish: Sighting: Rainbow sheen with small tar balls located along the west edge of Grand Terre Island; sheen extends into the Gulf & Barataria Bay. Sighting: Tar Balls located .5 miles S of Grand Isle. Sighting: Tar balls located .6 miles S of the E end of Grand Island Sighting: Oil sheen found at the mouth of Barataria Bay Waterway. Lafourche Parish: Sighting: Oil mass covering 5 acres located 6 miles SE of Pass Fourchon Sighting: Heavy sheen 100 feet by 200 feet in size located 2.6 miles S of East Timbalier Island Sighting: Oil sheen located in the NW side of Bay Champagne Sighting: Oil located E of the eastern marsh in Raccoon Lake Sighting: Large patch of thick grey oil sheen located 1 mile NE of Point Des Illetes Plaquemines Parish: Sighting: Sheen with tar balls and pancakes located 24 miles E of Blind Bay. Sighting: Oil with tar balls located 42 miles ESE of South Pass. Sighting: Oil slick/sheen 100 yards by 1 mile located 1 mile NE of Snake Island. Sighting: Oil located in N Redfish Bay Sighting: Sheen with tar balls located throughout Bay Batiste. Sighting: Heavy Oil located in Bay Jimmy Sighting: Heavy sheen located in N Barataria Bay 2 miles NE of Saint Marys Point. Sighting: Thick oil impacting grass located in N Barataria Bay 2 miles N of Saint Mary's Point. St. Bernard Parish: Sighting: Dark oil with tar balls located 4 miles S of Cat Island Mississippi. Sighting: Oil located in Skiff Lake 1 mile W of Skiff Island. Sighting: Tar balls located in Treasure Bay 2 miles SW of Point Cahill. Sighting: Oil impacting grass located in Saint Helena Bay 1 mile west of Fiddlers Point. St. Tammany Parish: Terrebonne Parish: Sighting: Oil impacting the S beach on Trinity Island 1.8 miles from the E end Sighting: Oil impacting the beach on the E side of Timbalier Island Sighting: Oil impacting the marsh 1.5 miles E of Timbalier Island ### |
