Report on Oil Sightings throughout Coastal Louisiana

BATON ROUGE (August 12, 2010) - The below is a situational awareness report of oil impacted areas led by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Army National Guard and local governments.

Note: The information in this report has been forwarded to the federal incident command post in Houma, which is composed of U.S. Coast Guard and BP officials. This report consists of newly impacted areas, and does not serve as a comprehensive listing of impacted areas.


Sightings Report August 12, 2010


St Bernard:
  • Sighting: 50 feet by 25 feet area of a dark brown substance impacting an unnamed marsh island in Lake Fortuna .4 miles NNE of Point Gardner.



Plaquemines:
  • Sighting: Oil sheen located in Pass Abel 1 mile N of the E end of Isle Grande Terre.
  • Sighting: Oil sheen located in Lake Grand Ecaille 1.46 miles W of Rattlesnake Bayou.
  • Sighting: 20 feet by 10 feet area of oil impacting an unnamed marsh island in Black Bay located .5 miles NNW of Grassy Point.



Jefferson:
  • Sighting: Oil sheen located in Bayou Saint Denis .54 miles SW of the S entrance to Bayou Cutler.



Lafourche:
  • Sighting: 3 very small pools of oil impacting the E bank of Bell Pass .7 miles N of the mouth.
