DOTD urges evacuees to head north
Baton Rouge (August 30, 2008) - The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) advises drivers evacuating from south Louisiana to head north on I-55 or I-59 instead of traveling east or west on I-10.

As of 11 p.m. Saturday, traffic was extremely congested on I-10 from the Biloxi, Miss., area to the tunnel in Mobile, Ala.

Contraflow operations will be initiated on I-55 and I-59 at 4 a.m. Sunday morning, as part of the southeast Louisiana evacuation plan.
