PRESS RELEASE More Louisiana universities and college announce closures Community and Technical Colleges Delgado Community College in New Orleans canceled classes and business effective 12 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29. LTC Regions 1 (New Orleans) and Region 3 (Morgan City/Lafourche) are both closed. Nunez Community College in Chalmette closed at 3:15 p.m., Friday, August 29. River Parishes Community College in Sorrento has canceled all classes on Tuesday, September 2 SOWELA Technical Community College in Lake Charles closed at 4:15 p.m., Friday, August 29 and will remain closed through Tuesday, September 2. Louisiana Technical College Region 4 (Acadiana) is closed through Tuesday Louisiana Technical College Region 9 Sullivan campus (Bogalusa), Hammond Area Campus, Ascension Campus, Florida Parishes Campuses all closed through Tuesday. South Louisiana Community College in Lafayette announced that classes have been cancelled and business operations will be suspended at all South Louisiana Community College campuses on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Decisions regarding any further cancellations or closures will be made pending additional information. Students, faculty and staff should monitor the colleges’ website at www.southlouisiana.edu, local news broadcasts and SLCC email accounts for updated notifications. Additionally, updated information can be accessed by calling the SLCC emergency phone line at (337) 521-8926. Colleges and Universities Southern University New Orleans cancelled classes Friday. Students needing shelter are going Southern Baton Rouge. Most private colleges and universities closed Friday at noon. Dillard University students needing shelter will go to Centenary College; Tulane to Jackson State; Xavier to Grambling; Our Lady of Holy Cross College to St. Joseph’s Seminary College in Covington. LSU's Baton Rouge campus is closed Tuesday. LSU-Eunice cancelled classes beginning Friday. University of New Orleans closed Friday. Southeastern Louisiana University will be closed Monday and Tuesday. All non-essential buildings at McNeese State University in Lake Charles were closed and secured beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Residence halls, dining services, athletic complex and university police will remain open. The University of Louisiana Lafayette is closed through Tuesday Graduate/Professional Schools Classes at the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge are canceled for Tuesday, September 2. Classes are expected to resume on Wednesday, September 3. Campuses are gathering information on where their faculty are evacuating in the event they need to send payroll to alternate addresses. The Board of Regents is ready to establish a Displaced Faculty/Staff Registry if necessary to facilitate institutions needing to “borrow” faculty. The Board of Regents is also encouraging evacuating students to make sure they have the information they might need to attend another institution, such as their schedules and transcripts. |
