Sewerage:   Due to power outages, some sewer lift stations are still not operational.  To assist and ensure that there are no sewerage backups…11 sewerage pump trucks are working throughout the parish today.  If you see any type of overflow or backup from manholes…you are urged to call the Public Works Department at 297-5560.

SAND BAGS FOR PARISH RESIDENTS
Plaquemines offers sandbags in anticipation of ‘Ike’

Plaquemines Parish residents who would like sandbags to fortify their homes and property in preparation for  a potential strike from Hurricane Ike will be able to acquire sand and bags beginning tomorrow.   Residents are asked to bring their own shovels and bag the sand themselves.   The parish will not be able to provide filled bags due to major efforts to fortify and repair levees in preparation for ‘Ike’.    Parish employees are filling sandbags that will be placed on standby for flood fighting in case of levee breaches and over-toppings such as those experienced during Hurricane Gustav.

Sand and bags will be available at three locations:

  • The Woodlawn Building on the East Bank
  • The Temporary Courthouse on Hebert Blvd. in Belle Chasse
  • Roger Halphen Park on Highway 11 in Buras

Again, residents will be asked to bag the sand themselves and bring their own shovels.  Sand and bags will be available beginning at 10:00am tomorrow at the locations mentioned above.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we all prepare for the potential of another hurricane.
