Food Distribution Continues, Food Stamps Still Pending, 18% Without Power
ST. JOHN (September 9, 2008) - Updates as of 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 9, 2008

FOOD STAMPS: State/USDA Food Stamp Registration has not begun in St. John Parish. We ask our residents to tune in to Channel 15 and www.sjbparish.com for the most up to date information regarding the location and times. Residents can also go to www.dss.state.la.us for more information and eligibility requirements.

CURFEW remains in place from 12 am to 6 am. Ammunition ban still in effect.

Tarp Registration: The Army Corps of Engineers is at 1801 W. Airline Hwy in LaPlace and will be signing residents up for blue tarps for their roofs. Residents must come to the building to sign up for this service. Registration will be from 9 am - 5 pm.

DISTRIBUTION POINTS : 

Regala Park, 194 Regala Park Rd., Reserve, LA 70084. (Meals & Water)   This center will be open from 10 AM to 6 PM.

SCHOOLS: ALL SCHOOLS IN ST. JOHN WILL RE-OPEN WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 10TH

POWER: Entergy Outage Information - (18%) customers are without electricity on the East and West Bank. Entergy has given St. John Parish an estimated finish date of September 10 to have power fully restored to the parish.  Parish officials are working with Entergy to reestablish services.  Upon return residents are asked to call 1-800-9-OUTAGE to report power outages.

Reminder: Burning is illegal in St. John Parish per Ordinance: 93-66, Ch. 10

GARBAGE COLLECTION: has begun. SWDI has brought in additional trucks to catch up on their routes. It is expected that regular pick-ups will be able to be done by Friday morning. 

SEWERAGE: Sewerage service is limited throughout St. John due to the lack of Power. Crews are working at returning these services to full capacity. PARISH OFFICIALS ASK THAT RESIDENTS minimize use of their sewerage (take short showers, avoid washing dishes, and avoid using unnecessary water). President Hubbard ordered 20 tanker pump trucks to pump down sewer lift stations to help alleviate the problem. Utilities / Public Work Crews are working around the clock to manage the problem.

DEBRIS: Please begin cleaning your property upon your return. Place all debris on the curb of your property.  Crews will be picking this debris over the next week or two. ***ST. JOHN DISASTER RECOVERY TEAMS are picking up debris parish wide.

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE DEBRIS IN THE DRAINAGE DITCHES AND CANALS. *Debris Management Crews are beginning the debris clean-up effort in full force. Crews will be working from 7am -7pm..residents are asked to begin cleaning their property and place their green debris in one pile at the edge of the road.  Please separate green goods from white goods to assist in debris clean up.

CLOSED: Animal Shelter, Post Office

COURTHOUSE:   Courts will re-open Thursday, Sept 11, 2008 at Edgard Courthouse in Edgard. All sections (A, B, & C) will re-open.(Pending weather conditionsbrought on by Hurricane Ike. Criminal court that was set for LaPlace in Division A, on Monday, September 8, 2008 is reset to October 13, 2008 for the same time at the same place.
