Texas Evacuees Seek Refuge in Louisiana Shelter
Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness News Update
BATON ROUGE, La. (September 15, 2008) - Approximately 100 Hurricane Ike evacuees from Texas are housed in a state run shelter in Shreveport.

Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Mark Cooper says, “We know all too well how difficult times like this can be. Losing your home and belongings are traumatic experiences. The least we can do is provide a place of refuge until our neighbors can get back on their feet.”

Caddo/Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Officials say the evacuees started arriving last week and continue to come to Louisiana today.  Texas shelters are reportedly full because of the large number of evacuees from the Gulf Coast.

The Shreveport shelter housing Texas evacuees is located in the Old Sam’s Club.
