Louisiana Workforce Commission updates Business and Career Solutions Center status: Thibodaux center still closed, mobile units providing additional service in storm-impacted areas
Louisiana Workforce Commission News Update
BATON ROUGE , La. (September 16, 2008) - The Louisiana Workforce Commission announced today that electricity and Internet service has been restored to all but one of its storm-impacted Business and Career Solutions Centers. The Thibodaux center remains closed pending restoration of power, but a mobile unit will be in the city Wednesday, Sept. 17, to provide services.

Three mobile units are positioned in south Louisiana to take new unemployment insurance claims and provide job search and placement services. The units are equipped with banks of computers connected by satellite to the Commission's computer systems.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, mobile units will be located in:

  • Mathews – La. 1 at former Wal-Mart location
  • Thibodaux – 1309 Canal Blvd.
  • Vacherie – 2593 La. 20

Mobile units are scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at these locations.

The best way to file new unemployment insurance claims continues to be the Commission's Web site at www.laworks.net.

Those without Internet access wishing to file new claims should call 1-866-259-6345 or 1-800-957-1605. The call center will operate from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

Those who have already filed a claim and wish to file for continued weekly benefits also should use the Web at www.laworks.net, or call their local Easy Call number or any of the other 30 or so Easy Call numbers.

People who have issues with their claims should call the commission’s usual toll-free line, 1-866-783-5567, to have them resolved.
