Lafourche Parish Storm Debris Collection Update

RACELAND, La. (September 23, 2008) - Omni Pinnacle continues to pick up vegetative debris throughout the Parish.  The crews are averaging 3706 cubic yards per day.  As of 09/22/08, 66,718 cubic yards have been collected over the last 18 days.  The debris removal contractors cannot mix vegetative tree debris with other types of disaster generated debris so piles with mixed debris were left on the curb and will be picked up at a later date.

A major part of the Omni loading operation is the segregation of debris types.  The four principle forms of debris include:  household hazardous waste, white goods (appliances), construction and demolition (C/D) materials and vegetative debris.  There is a right way to sort your debris and sorted debris will be removed before mixed debris.  Mixed debris is classified as having two or more types of debris mixed together.  Household hazardous waste, appliances and mixed debris will be the last material that will be picked up from the side of the road.

SWDI, LLC will collect regular household garbage, such as food refuse, diapers, newspapers and other wastes in cans or bags.  SWDI, LLC will not collect storm generated debris such as trees, tree limbs, fencing, roofing and other building materials. 

Because different trucks will collect and dispose of different kinds of solid wastes, we ask that residents separate the garbage and storm related debris at the curb as follows:

• Containerized regular household garbage, cut grass and other bagged waste should be placed curbside no earlier than 4 pm on the day prior to either of your regularly scheduled garbage collection days.

• Storm related debris which may be placed curbside for collection should be separated as follows:

            Household garbage

• Bagged trash
• Discarded food
• Packaging, papers

• Building materials
• Drywall

• Carpet
• Furniture
• Mattresses
• Plumbing

Vegetative Debris

• Tree branches
• Leaves
• Logs

Household Hazardous Waste  (notice will be given when pick up will begin)
