State Prepares for Winter Weather
BATON ROUGE (December 4, 2009) - The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) has activated the GOHSEP Crisis Action Team and state agencies are prepared to respond to forecasted winter weather conditions. GOHSEP is coordinating preparedness and response efforts with the Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and the Public Service Commission and is working with impacted parishes to assure they have the resources needed in anticipation of sleet, snow, and potential icing of Louisiana roadways in parts of the state.

The current weather forecasts call for a possibility of one to three (1-3) inches of snow in Southwest and Southeast Louisiana from a line just north of I-10/I-12 to just north of Alexandria. North of that region will experience temperatures at or just below freezing but with less moisture; the chance for snow and ice in those areas is 20 percent.

Any icing issues will mainly affect bridges and overpasses. For the latest information on local weather, residents should listen to their local weather service.
