Report on Oil Sightings throughout Coastal Louisiana

Baton Rouge (August 20, 2010) - The below is a situational awareness report of oil impacted areas led by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Army National Guard and local governments.

Note: The information in this report is unconfirmed by the state and has been forwarded to the federal incident command post in Houma, which is composed of U.S. Coast Guard and BP officials, for their action. This report consists of newly impacted areas, and does not serve as a comprehensive listing of impacted areas.

Sightings Report August 20, 2010

St. Bernard:

  • Sighting: Oil impacting marsh grass located N of Deadmans Bayou 1.90 miles WSW of Turtle Pen Isle.
  • Sighting: Oil located in the western side of Christmas Camp Lake 1.68 miles NW of Point Cahill.

Plaquemines:

  • Sighting: Tar balls impacting beach located near the mouth of the Mississippi river's North Pass.
  • Sighting: Oil located on the eastern side of the Mississippi river's Southwest Pass, 4.38 miles NE of the Southwest Pass Lighthouse.
