ST. CHARLES PARISH (September 3, 2011) -

  • Heavy rains over the area today produced street flooding in communities across the parish. There are no road closures at this time. Residents should expect continued squalls containing heavy downpours and possible tornado warnings overnight and into Sunday. Residents should continue to monitor the weather and avoid driving if possible. It is ILLEGAL to drive at a high rate of speed through flooded areas.
  • The parish remains under a flash flood watch through Sunday evening and a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Saturday.
  • Please refrain from sewer usage, such as clothes washing, dishwashing, etc. until further notice to prevent sewer backups.
  • The Emergency Operations Center also reported numerous trees down and two homes partially flooded in Norco.
  • As of 4:15 p.m. Entergy was reporting eight customers in St. Charles Parish without power.
  • Please continue to report any flooded streets, downed trees and power lines and debris piles and/or blocked culverts to EOC at (985) 783-5050.
  • Parish personnel continue to monitor drainage and pump station operations 24/7.
  • Sand and sandbags are still available. For locations, visit www.stcharlesparish-la.gov/hurricane. Bring your own shovel to fill bags.
  • Please report any power outages to Entergy at 1-800-ENTERGY.
