St. Landry-Evangeline United Way to Host Red Cross Volunteer Training

Trained Volunteers Required for Shelter Work

ST. LANDRY PARISH (May 20, 2011) - Ginger LeCompte, Executive Director of the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way announced today that the Acadiana Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will be conducting a volunteer training on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the United Way office at 311 W. Vine St., in Opelousas at 5:30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. for people who wish to assist at any Red Cross Shelter. Charles Banks, Community Recovery Specialist for the Red Cross stated, "Volunteers working in our shelters must have a background check and have Red Cross training, and it is likely we will need volunteers in the coming days and possibly weeks."
